Long Time no Post

It has been over a year since I posted on here last but I wanted to restart this to keep myself up to date on  various Crafting Projects and Stitch-a-longs. My last post on here was 9/27/2017 so definitely too long.  I figured I would split this up into multiple sections to get caught up:

    Cross Stitching:

  • Year of Ink Circles: All new starts for the year must be Ink Circles patterns

  • Finish #stitch9challenge sponsored by @farmgirl on instagram
  • Make Progress on my WIPocalypse.
  • Organize my craft studio
    Quilting:

  • WIPocalypse: Try to finish at least 10 projects. I will use the above plus Rosie the Riveter by Hornswoggle studios.
  • Magical Stitches and Literature Challenge on Facebook.
    • weekly/monthly/yearly challenges for reading and stitching related to the Harry Potter books.
3.Stash Report
  • Report monthly purchase and usage of Fabric, Floss, and Yarn.

I will be updating the background, sidebars, and pages of this document in the near future.

August and September Stitching Updates

Well it has been a long time since I last Updated but I do Have a lot to share! My plan is to get caught up in a few posts. I am going to recommit to my Crafting Blog as I really need it to help me stay on task.

Cross-Stitching:
I have been working heavily on 2 projects:
Brigid's Shamrock
This is a HAED pattern that uses DMC threads and I chose to put it on 18CT AIDA as it is 100% Coverage. The Pciture above was the starting point in July. I worked on this project on 2 summer stitch days sponsored by my LNS and got to this point:
Then I spent concentrated time on the project in August and some of September am at this point currently:
My plan is to get to 1/4 complete before I move to another Focus project for awhile. I have already consumed 5 Skiens of DMC (2 black, 1 each of white, 906 and 907). I also made the grime guard on my Qsnap as well :)

I also worked on Tapestry by Ink Circles.

This is using the called for threads on Autumn by Under the Sea Fabrics on 32ct lugana. this was a true joy to work on but decided to take a break to focus on Brigid's Above.

Finally, I completed the following that was my travel stitching:
I used the called for DMC and a piece of 28ct. evenweave from my stash. It's a Cute Pattern from Lizzie and Kate Called Live Well

The plan for October is to get to the 1/4 point on Brigid'd and move to a Halloween pattern of some sort.

Happy Stitching everyone!

2017 - WIPocalypse Check-in

This is the initial 2017 WIPocalypse Check-in. Each month we are to check-in with our progress on certain stitchy projects. I will be updating the Side bar to the left with my projects as I work through them. The prompt for this month is to introduce ourselves, our projects, and any goals we have for ourselves.

My Name is Katie. I am a mechanical engineer by training with a Ph.D. in my field. I continue to work as an engineer by day and craft when I get the chance at night. I am married but have not been blessed with children at this time so that does give me more time to craft :). My dear husband is very good at putting up with my crafting addiction and loves to see what I can create.

As for my Stitchy goals for this year, I would like to be better at check-ins for WIPocalypse 2017. The projects that I want to work on are half new starts and half WIPs.

New starts:
Cirque des Cercles
Cirque Des Carreaux
Toronto of the Pretty little Cities series
Noah's Submarine
USA - Thea Gouverneur

WIPs:
Pinocchio - When you wish upon a star
Santa and Westie Stocking
The ABC's of Family
Snowman Ornaments
Brigid's Shamrock - HAED - 3 pages for the year or more complete

I also have goals of only stitching from my stash except for the 10.00 budget I have given myself.

Let's hope this works out to accomplishing a lot!

Happy Stitching!

Final Finishes of the year

I was able to finish stitching 4 more Ornaments before the end of the year. They are part of a kit from Craftways that I added to my stash sometime in 2014 (I think?). There are a total of 12 mug patterns but I only see myself finishing 9 of them at most.
All in all they are relatively easy stitches. I am in the process of formulating my Goals for 2017 and will post about them once I get back from a road trip to see my inlaws in Minnesota.

I did just realize that I never took photos of the bound quilts for my niece and nephew but they did sleep with them on Christmas eve so I consider that a win from a 3 and 5 year old.

Now onto deciding what is the next stitch for the Q -snaps?

Have a great day and Happy Stitching!

5 More

While I had the patterns out, I finished the ornaments for next year for my Niece and Nephew. (Sorry I couldn't get the picture to rotate.)

2017 Ornaments
I also was able to get a few other designs completed for my grandma as well.

All of the ornaments were take 100% from my stash.

I have joined the Facebook Stitch from my Stash 2017A group these can count on my finishes for the warm up. I got a total of $5.00 of credit for the 3 for my grandmother and then another $4.00 for the gingerbread people. That is a total of $9.00 to add to my budget. :)

I have already lined up the kits and/or kitted projects for the rest of the year. :)

Happy Stitching everyone!

2 ornaments Complete

Well I finished the 2016 ornaments for my Niece and nephew last night. I decided to get a head start on the 2017 ones as next. I used the caller for DMC from my stash and AIDA I had on hand. the patterns are from a Leisure arts book.

I made them the first 2 Gingerbread people last year and 2017 will finish the set. This month is looking to be a good craft month from an accomplishment perspective.

I also decided to take part in the Stitch from my Stash 2017 group. I am giving myself $10.00 for a monthly budget. I am allowed to continue the one Fabric of the month group that I have been a part of for over a year. I am also allowed to pay for framing and finishing as needed. My Stitching retreat is also already paid for so that is covered. The trunk shows are going to be interesting for me at the retreat as I will need to rely on my 10.00 budget and any Christmas gifts I my get. (YIKES)

I also decided to carry this budget through to all my stash related purchases for crafting, including yarn and fabric. I will be allowed to pay for long arming of quilting as needed.

I am still trying to understand how I feel about classes? I was thinking of taking a quilting class so who knows?

I also will state that the budget started November 1 for me.

Happy Stitching everyone!

Quilt Finish #4 - Pink Dot

My 2 year old niece asked me to make a quilt for her after I finished the 2 quilts for her dollies.  her Bedroom is decorated in Minnie Mouse so here is what I came up.

I found 4 fabrics that had Minnie Mouse in them and then created a wonky square pattern around it. So I can say I designed this one. It is now waiting to be basted for me to quilt.

Her Brother, My Nephew, also requested on with Super heroes and Turtles which I am in the process of piecing the top.

All in all, not too bad on Progress.

Happy Stitching!

Early Nov. Finishes

So I have been spending time on the Cover picture from the Just Cross Stitch Issue from December 2015.

Image result for just cross stitch issue december 2015

This is my starting pic:

I also spent some time with my aunt in Phoenix, AZ. She is an Experienced quilter and sewer. We made a few things so I will shares those pics over the next 2 posts.

Key Fobs - Scrap Fabric

Christmas Wall Hanging - Scraps
Autumn Star Quilt my aunt had in her stash
We also went to a few stores in the Phoenix area including the 3 Dudes Quilting shop. I saw one of the more entertaining figures outside of their shop:

I made sure to send it to my father and Dear husband as my mom was also on the trip. Their response..."oh Heck no...we would be with you all the way!" Nothing like support.

The impromptu work trips are causing some issues with time but I am trying to find projects that I can travel with on planes.

SFS A Check-in June 2015

Here is my Check in for June for SFS 2015-A:

Month: June
Spent: $0.00
Earned: $0.00
Complete Budget saved for part A: $170.00 (May Carryover 145 + 25 from this months budget)

I am actually extremely proud of myself from a budget perspective this year.

Concerns: I am not necessarily stitching at the rate that I have in the past. Possible causes could be stress from the daily Job, More travel than was expected due to that Job, a death in DH family and a vacation but I have high hopes for the tail end of this year.

There was a glimmer of hope this past month: While I was not planning on having a week long road trip for an out of state funeral in the middle of it, I made progress on a new shawl and am about an hour of backstitching away from completing the Christmas Stocking for a friend. I hope to have pics by the beginning of next week.

I also signed up for SFS 2015-B. The budget has really kept me in check with goals and helped me explore the beauty of my stash in general.

Happy stitching everyone!

May SFS 2015-A Check-in

Here is my Check in for May for SFS 2015-A:

Month: May
Spent: $12.00 (3 yds of Clearance fabric for binding of future quilts)
Earned: $16.00 (Santa's Office)
Carryover to April: $145.00 (April Carryover 116 + 4 (from Above) + 25 from this months budget)

All in all, this month has been a good one from a budget perspective.

I have decided that I need to get back to setting monthly goals for myself as I have been slacking in the posting department.

So here are my monthly goals for June: (keeping in mind I have a 12 day vacation in Here)

June 2015 Goals:
1.) Post at least 4 times this month
2.) Get caught up on posts of finishes
3.) Complete Cross- stitch of Stocking for a friend
4.) Get Batik Bricks quilt to Long armer prior to vacation (That means finishing piecing the top too)
5.) Complete 4 Christmas ornaments (These are great car trip tasks)
6.) Finish gender neutral baby blanket and post about it
7.) Tuck in all the ends on knitting projects (It is my least favorite thing to do so I need to make it a goal to get it done.

Happy stitching everyone!

Brick Quilt in Progress

Just a quick of a Quilt that is in Progress for my cousin Andy. The risk has been the fabric and pattern choice being masculine enough.

Brick Quilt in progress - Batik Layer Cake (RJR Fabrics)
Hopefully he likes it.
